What is Balayage?
Balayage is a highlighting technique that is designed to create very natural-looking highlights that grow out without developing a noticeable and obvious root. This technique is all the rage amongst celebrities and is rapidly growing in popularity.
When the hair is highlighted with the Balayage process, the highlights are painted on by hand in a fluid, sweeping motion that moves from the base to the ends of the hair. At the base, the product is applied very lightly, and the amount gradually increases as it is painted through the ends. The result is a subtle, "sun-kissed" look. As the hair grows out, the root is less noticeable.
Where can I get Balayage highlights?
Siggers Hairdressers offers Balayage & Ombre highlights. It is important to make sure that your hairdresser is skilled in the art of Balayage highlights, as Balayage gone awry can be difficult to fix. Balayage requires a good eye and a very steady hand and must be performed by an experienced hairdresser who has extensive knowledge of the technique.
What is the difference between foil highlights and Balayage highlights?
The difference between foil highlights and Balayage highlights is that foil highlights have the same amount of lightened hair from root to end. Balayage highlights have less lightened hair at the roots and more lightened towards the ends. This is how we achieve a European look of hair color.
What is Ombre?
Ombre is a form of Balayage, where the highlights are applied around the face and then only toward the ends of the rest of the hair - keeping highlights further from the roots to give a very subtle color gradation.
The Balayage technique emerged in Paris in the 1970s. After crossing the pond to the United States, Balayage became extremely popular during the late 1990s. The word "balayage" means "to sweep" in French, a reference to the method in which the color is applied.
Siggers Hairdressers has offered Balayage for more than 20 years and taught hairdressers all over the world the art of Balayage highlights. Over the years, our hairdressers have traveled to Paris numerous times to perfect their skills. Siggers Hairdressers Balayage Classes are held once a year at the American Board of Certified Haircolorists' Energizing Summit in Los Angeles and multiple times throughout the year at our salon in Atlanta.
