The Tan Room is located upstairs, away from the main salon for your privacy. The custom airbrush tan is applied with an airbrush gun in our spacious shower. Each of our custom airbrush artists are trained professionally and will make you feel comfortable and beautiful in your own skin. Once your tan has been applied, you can air-dry in front of our over-sized fan to speed up the drying process! Take a look in our full-length mirror and see your brand-new bronzed body from head to toe!
Whether you need to be bronzed and beautiful for a special occasion, or just want to look like you lost 5 lbs. in 15 minutes, our custom airbrush tan artists can help you achieve a flawless tan. Our state-of-the-art products will enable you to have a natural, long-lasting tan with minimal maintenance. Siggers Hairdressers is the only salon on the east coast with a custom-blend solution that produces gorgeous, even tans time after time. Experience our expertise today.
The tanning process only takes 15 minutes. With the consultation, preparation & application it will be approximately 30 minutes. Preparing For Your Tan
Getting a custom airbrush tan is a quick and safe way to get a beautiful tan. Preparing for it makes the process a breeze. Before coming to the salon, we recommend following these steps:
-
Shower, exfoliate, & shave before your session.
-
Shave the day or night before (preferably), or at least 8 hours before your appointment, using a body wash or hair conditioner instead of harsher shaving creams or gels. If you tan too soon after shaving, your pores are wide open and you may get little dots on your legs!
-
Be sure to wash off any hair conditioner residue from your body with soap so that it doesn’t create a barrier.
-
Do not schedule an airbrush tan after long sun exposure. Your skin may peel off from sunburn and therefore peel off your tan.
-
Don't use any anti-aging products like Retin-A on your skin for 2-3 days before your appointment.
-
Only use water based lotions or none at all. Do NOT use oil based lotions.
-
Do not get a massage the same day as your airbrush tan, the oils used can block your airbrush tan from absorbing into your skin properly or create an un-even tan.
-
Skin should be clean and dry before being sprayed. Don’t apply moisturizers, oils, perfume, anti-perspirant, or makeup before your tanning appointment, as they can effect tan development.
-
Style hair in a hairclip or ponytail so it will be off of face and neck.
-
If you chose to wear undergarments, please bring items that are appropriate and OK to be sprayed in (the airbrush tan solution may stain these items): lingerie, bathing suit, or disposables.
-
Wear dark, loose fitting clothing that will not grab your skin and will not collect color (no tight waistbands, shorts, white clothing, or short skirts).
-
Wear appropriate footwear: flip flops, sandals, or disposable sandals.
-
You will not be able to get wet or sweaty for 8-10 hours for a Regular Spray Tan, and between 2-4 hours for the Express Tan – so please plan accordingly.
-
Bring a towel to cover leather or light-colored seats.
-
If it is raining or snowing, bring an umbrella and proper outerwear. If you get rained or snowed on, you will streak or spot.
During the tan:
-
Tell your airbrush artist if you have been exposed to any of the following recently: sun, oils, water, oil-based lotions.
-
Undress to your comfort.
-
Take off makeup if you wish to have your face tanned.
-
Take off all jewelry and footwear.
-
Put your hair up in a ponytail or clip.
-
Put on a shower cap to protect your hair from any discoloration.
-
Stay standing on the towel at all times (so that you don't get tan on the bottom of your feet).
-
Put barrier cream on the palms of your hands and fingernails only!
-
Do not touch your body anywhere once you have barrier cream on. Anywhere the cream touches, the tan will not stick.
-
Tell your airbrush artist how tan you want to be.
-
Follow instructions on where and how to move so that your tan will be flawless.
-
Your hands, feet, and face will have the least amount of tan applied to them.
-
Please close your eyes and hold your breath when your face is being tanned.
-
Exit by walking on top of the towels.
After your airbrush tan:
-
Once you are tan, stay in front of the large fan for at least 10 minutes while you dry (make sure to rotate so that the fan can dry your back as well).
-
Do not touch your body as you are drying.
-
Once dry, put on your dark, loose clothing.
-
Do not get wet after getting a tan until your first shower. This includes staying away from: rain, physical activity that will make you sweat, tears, pedicure bowls, washing hands, swimming pools, hot tubs, bathing, etc.
-
Wear loose fitting clothing until your first shower, while your tan develops.
-
Don’t exercise heavily or get sweaty, for the first 12-24 hours, until your tan is fully developed.
-
For the best and longest - lasting results, wait as long as possible to shower after getting a tan. You should wait at least 12 - 24 hours before taking your first shower. The longer you wait, the better.
-
Do NOT take baths after your tan, as soaking is likely to remove the tan more rapidly.
-
Use lukewarm water during showers, not hot water as hot water will make your tan flake. The hotter the water, the more easily the tan will come off.
-
When you take your first shower, you will see a coat of the airbrush tan come off in the water. This is normal.
-
Your first shower should be a water-only rinse. Please use your hands to gently wash off any excess bronzer, so that it will develop evenly. Use lukewarm water, and rinse well for about 5 minutes. If you look streaky after your shower, it means you haven’t rinsed well enough.
-
Do not rub at or exfoliate your skin in the shower with washcloths or loofahs until you are ready to remove your tan.
-
Do not use Dove soap or any bar soaps. It can strip your tan.
-
Ideally you should use a light, transparent body wash.
-
Blot dry gently, do not rub your towel on your skin to dry.
-
After each shower, be sure to moisturize with an UNSCENTED lotion that does not contain mineral oil. Only apply water-based lotions.
-
Do not use tanning oils or sunscreen with oil for sun bathing while you have the tan.
-
An airbrush tan does not prevent you from getting sunburnt. If you get sunburnt and your skin begins to peel, it will peel off your airbrush tan as well, leaving you with splotchy skin. Please take the proper precautions for skin care when out in the sun.
-
Hot tubs, swimming pools, and even extended time in the ocean will take off your tan. If you plan on doing any swimming, apply a waterproof sunblock, and only take quick dips. If a hot tub is definitely in your plans, a spray tan may not be advisable for you, at this time.
-
Wait at least 2 days before shaving again after getting airbrush tanned. Be very gentle with your skin while shaving.
-
The more often you shave, the faster the tan will come off.
-
Avoid exfoliating skin while you have your spray tan. Do not use a loofah or scrub your skin. Some products can cause faster fading – bar soaps, products with sulfates, alcohol based products such as toners and astringents, products that cause exfoliation such as AHAs, BHAs, Retin-A, etc. (anti-aging, anti-acne, regenerating, renewing) Make sure that when you shave, you do so gently with a sharp razor (without a moisture strip) to avoid exfoliating skin. Use either body wash or hair conditioner instead of harsher shaving gels or creams.
-
To keep a tan on your face, do not use a facial scrub or mask.
-
You can use bronzer makeup powder to add a tan finish to your face, neck and chest daily for a fresh look.
